I’ve heard plenty of amazing things about The Hive Society! One of my former co-workers/friend Kaylan first put me onto the organization when she started volunteering and writing with them about a year ago. After she brought me up to speed on their platform, I was intrigued by their mission and I even did some of my own additional research.
Now, as fate would have it, I came in contact with The Hive Society again at ModChic Couture‘s exclusive Summer 2016 Collection preview via Amanda Randle! The spirited and charismatic 20-something urged me about the organization’s upcoming AXIOM art showcase and shot a couple Instagram tags my way and (BOOM!) I knew I had to attend!
Disclaimer: I didn’t get many pictures at all. I spent most of my time checking out the various paintings and photos from some of the city’s hottest artistic talents. But, the ambience was extremely chill and mellow. It was my first time visiting the East End Studio Gallery in Southeast Houston so I was was really stoked to experience a new venue. The gallery itself is nestled in one of the the most photogenic areas I’ve ever spotted (aside from Montrose and Washington Avenue). The location is also centered around a Thai restaurant, a Latin bar/grill and a few other quaint businesses. I’d definitely recommend making a weekend day trip to check everything out!
Upon entering the studio, attendees were bombarded with live models, art-drenched wall space and vendors galore! I walked around the steamy room, capturing candid moments on my Snapchat and I randomly happened upon a dope eyewear designer known as Sky Trues. He’s the truth! I instantly fell in love with his pro-African designs, flamboyant colors/textures and his distinctive approach to branding such dynamic eye candy.
For the event, I uplifted my Rosie Assoulin-inspired ModChic Couture off-the-shoulder blouse, my trusty Laviye ‘Kyla’ mini-skirt, a perspex Zara handbag and a pair of orange lace-ups from Buffalo Exchange.
Can’t wait to see what The Hive Society has in store for upcoming events!
