On Thursday, February 23, 2016, I had the privilege of guest speaking at my very FIRST networking mixer! Thanks to Kia Renee of The Session TV Show, I was able to share my story with the attendees of the first monthly Get Ready with Me, Beauty and Branding Mixer at Kissue Boutique in Rice Village.

I walked into the exquisite boutique and was immediately greeted by Kia Renee. We quickly hugged each other before she proceeded to introduce me to the ultra-chic Kissue store owners, as well as a few young women who were in attendance to support me. Although I was elated to play such a small part in this mixer, I was equally nervous to give my speech in front of the awaiting attendees.
As the night progressed, I started to mix and mingle with the fashionistas that were already present. We exchanged business cards, sipped some Moscato, enjoyed impeccable catering (courtesy of Rice Village’s Black Walnut Cafe) and even snapped a few photos. But, the best surprise of the evening had to be the arrival of my mom and my aunt! Their support means the WORLD to me and it created this instant calmness throughout my entire aura.
Soon enough, it was my time to shine. I stepped in front of the audience and I let it rip! My speech mainly consisted of topics included discussing the importance of networking, my significance with Fashion Bomb Daily, my take on creating valuable content and I also indulged in a few of my favorite fashion tips. My note cards were handy and I projected as far as my little voice would allow. I urged attendees to look beyond the fear of meeting new entrepreneurs while effectively showcasing their brand, I also disclosed how important personal style can be in expressing your true character but, more importantly, I encouraged listeners to live their lives on their own terms, according to their own standards.
Hands down, one of the most memorable moments had to be my closing statement! In an effort to leave an emotional impression, I advised the Get Ready With Me Beauty and Branding Mixer attendees to whip out their phones and compact mirrors to allow them to see themselves as their only competition. I explained that the world has its way of making you feel that you have to compete with everyone around you but, ultimately, you are your biggest critic.
Being able to stand in front of group of like-minded professionals while revealing my most vulnerable attributes was a trying task; however, the reward it provided was nothing short of a blessing.
The Get Ready with Me, Beauty and Branding Mixer was a success, without a doubt. I connected with some of Houston’s most promising entrepreneurs and I conquered one of my deepest fears. And, it felt pretty damn good. I can’t wait for my next speaking opportunity!
