On May 6, 2020, Michelle Obama’s long-awaited documentary, Becoming, dropped on Netflix. If you haven’t already checked it out, it an an absolute revelation. I was literally balling within the first five minutes of it starting! In my opinion, it is the perfect catalyst for such an uncertain time within our nation and within our world.
Aside from being wildly inspired and retrospectively smitten, the film also provided me endless streams of inspiration. From future ideas for content on my blog to a few ‘fit ideas, donned by Mrs. Obama herself, one token that really stuck with me was one of the First Lady’s most iconic one liners: “When they go low, we go high.”
Just a simple reminder: Never let anyone dictate your worth. I’m sure we have all endured instances where it feels as if you’ve taken a right hook to the side. Feeling hurt, broken and defeated. There will always be times where you’ll come across people who will stoop to the lowest of lows to make themselves feel like they possess total power over you. They believe that, if they make themselves feel good enough, all the pain and turmoil they unleash upon others will instantly gratify their innermost vulnerabilities.

The fact is, they can’t be further from the truth. Despite their miniscule attempts to break down others, they are only diminishing their own light.
To all my positivity crusaders out there, don’t give up. Rise above the mediocrity that is negativity. Vibrate on a higher frequency, beyond the bounds of those who constantly attempt to decimate your character, your strength and your spirit. Embrace their words, use them as fuel for your success. Don’t let them see you sweat. Take it all in stride and keep smiling. There’s always a higher power watching.
“Always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals.”
– Forever First Lady Michelle Obama
