The Glow Up: 4 Tips on How To Live A More Refined and Elevated Lifestyle

2020 was supposed to be the year of elevation. And, um, yeah, it feels like we’ve been in COVID-19 limbo for ages, but take this time to transform yourself. While you’re at chillin’ at home, take time to embrace the life that you want to live. It may mean losing weight, it may encompass watching Netflix all day… hell, it may mean you do absolutely nothing. We’re all different.

But, one thing that we can agree on, is the fact that refining and tailoring your lifestyle can work wonders for productivity, self-confidence, self-discovery and internal peace. Keep reading to read up on my four tips for taking your day-to-day to the next level, even on the quarantine tip!

1) get up and dress up.

Dress the way you want to be addressed. A simple run to the store can turn into an encounter with a potential bae, a potential client or maybe a potential employer. You don’t want to be caught slipping in your pajamas and house slippers. Ladies, please avoid leaving the house in your bonnet! Level up your look. Create the image that you want to portray to the world, first impressions are lasting impressions.

Always look the part: don yourself with delicate gold jewelry, bomb accessories, light makeup and a little bit of lip gloss. I’m not saying that you should dress to the 9’s every time you leave your home, but do make yourself presentable. Make a habit of shopping brands that are both affordable and that offer damn good quality.

2) take care of you, sis.

Lean in more towards your feminine side! Make priorities to keep your nails maintained, deep condition your tresses and create a bomb skin care routine . The art of femininity can be manifested in so many different ways – exercising, eating more balanced meals, drinking more water, taking daily supplements and making those much-needed, annual doctor’s appointments.

E Tip: For a quick, overnight glow, try a Korean sheet mask! The Tony Moly brand are my absolute faves; each individual mask is geared towards specific skincare needs.

If you’re aspiring to feng shui your living space, your diet, and your style, escape with Pinterest! Create various boards that are tailor-made for your interests, pin every chance your get. Visualize your goals and manifest them. Be selective with who you devote your time to: be discreet in sharing your entire life on social media, maintain mystery. Avoid any and all types of drama. Also, be patient with maintaining your mental health. Try journaling, designate time to pray and complete daily devotions. Stay organized and cultivate productive habits (i.e.: keep a planner, make monthly vision boards, cultivate a gratitude journal.)

3) stay educated and stay creative.

Education is sexy. I don’t care what anyone says! There’s just something about a woman who know her stuff. Be more than just a pretty face, have some substance, be diverse. Explore your intellectual side by researching your specific interests or perhaps taking classes on skills you may want to learn. Education is deeper than just holding multiple degrees in your back pocket; I dare not say this buuutttt… money can buy those lil’ pieces of paper. You always want to move forward on a perpetual quest of leveling up yourself. Use you intelligence to learn how to work a room, effectively converse with a myriad of individuals.

Also, amp up your creative side! Visit museums, frequent art shows, peruse vinyl stores, attend live action plays, create a book list, indulge in your favorite YouTube storytellers… expose yourself to things outside of your comfort zone to continually set yourself apart as a multi-faceted gem rather than a one-trick pony.

4) exude confidence in all that you do.

Manifestations are the root of achieving your innermost passions. Speaking positivity and blessings into existence can have a significant impact on leveling up your life. With such power comes a natural confidence, not to be confused with being arrogant or cocky. The plan that you set forth for your life is completely up to you, other may view it as being “stuck up” or thinking too highly of yourself; however, the mere fact is you just will not settle for less. Know your worth, welcome what you truly deserve.

E Tip: Podcasts are your best friend. Follow women who motivate and inspire you, take in their teachings and conversations to help fuel your journey.

Create daily positive affirmations that you whisper to yourself, as you move about your day-to-day activities. Engage yourself in a uplifting self-talk. Make it a habit to speak clearly. Be firm, but clear in your intentions. Walk with your head held high, make eye contact. Practice your walk, your smile, and your overall aura. Exuding confidence in all that you do is highly noticeable – be the woman that knows how to expertly work a room. Create the image that reflects your authentic essence as a refined woman.

Itโ€™s in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
Iโ€™m a woman, Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman, Thatโ€™s me.”
– Maya Angelou’s, “Phenomenal Woman”, 1978
