I have yet to get my hands on Hanifa’s iconic Miya Knit Cardigan Dress. The failure of solidifying one of the brand’s most mesmerizing silhouettes still haunts me. But, your girl remains optimistic for the future!
A couple day ago, the Washington D.C.-based brand dropped their highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Hunaayyy… Let me tell you – Hanifa is playing no games!

Hanifa’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection is beyond good. In fact, “good” is an understatement.
With rising temperatures and the return of seasonal socializing, the ensembles featured are perfect for stepping back into the “we outside” spotlight.

Voluminous mini dresses, sultry cutouts and ravishing ruffles are just a few of the eye-catching details featured. Another slayage factor? The bright and whimsical hues – cool whites, tangerines, marigolds and funky purples fuel the sartorial fire.
There’s even something for the sophisticated and conservative queens; enter in muted tones of black/white, clean lines and nods to luxe simplicity. As seen above, the two-toned, high-slit midi dress is un-real.

Hanifa visionary and founder Anifa Mvuemba dished to Vogue Magazine about the birth of latest collection expressing: “I’m in a place where I don’t want to make excuses. I’m a designer, and I want to be recognized as such, not for the ‘Instagram thing’ or as the ‘Black girl’ “.

Over the past couple years, fashion has steered toward more “neutral” territory. I have to admit – it’s refreshing to see plays on color and texture. Of course, I’m also cheering on the endless melanin that’s showcased throughout the show. Inclusion. It’s a beautiful thing.

A few of standout pieces include bold, expertly-crafted corsets, a figure-hugging pink satin gown and a feather-embellished emerald green cutout midi dress. Hanifa has certainly made its mark on summertime – officially commencing the start of an apparent fashion reign.
It’s only up from here.
