This weekend, Thrift Con 2022 descended upon The Space City. My sister and I did attend the event last year as well – read more about our first experience here! Yet, this year’s version introduced more product versatility, more vintage tees and more people.

You must have a goal when shopping Thrift Con. You have to. It’s easy to get sucked up into impulse shopping and buying everything you deem as “cute”. Personally, my mantra was to hunt for all things unique. I also made it a priority to focus on $5 piles.
I refused to come home with a $100 tee as a prized find for the day. Instead, my wins included a $5 North Face shearling jacket, a one-of-a-kind gold vintage belt, a custom Dwyane Wade 2000’s Miami Heat drawstring purse and a custom, reworked Harley Davidson halter neck tee.

A few of my favorite vendors included Zoe’s Vintique, Rag Junkie and Flight Girls. All founded and ran by women of color! It’s a beautiful thing.
If I could give any form of advice, I’d advise this: Stay true to your style. Know what you want. Be ready to bargain and sort through piles (on your knees). Dress comfortably. Ikea oversized tote bags are lifesavers.

I survived Thrift Con 2022. It was a long-fought battle, but your girl came out victorious! Can’t wait for next year. The preparation will be even better.
