Bow Down: 5 Reasons Why Beyoncé’s Work Ethic is Absolute #Goals

After catching Beyonce’s first pregnancy appearance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, I realized that there is nothing this woman can’t do!

In just under five minutes, the Creole superstar gave all her awaiting Beyhive members a glimpse into her world which celebrates the beauty of conception/motherhood, the union of Black women, the importance of faith and family and the strength that comes with the day-to-day struggles of living life as an American minority. She even gave a nod to little sister Solange by showcasing how we, as a race, can have “a seat at the table”. The songstress was clad in an exuberant custom sheer gold gown created by Peter Dundas and she donned enough matching hardware to last an entire lifetime (i.e.- massive statement drop earrings, a crown and African-inspired chokers). I watched in complete awe, amazed at the selfless creativity that poured through Bey’s mesmerizing performance. I knew I was witnessing history the moment she stepped onto that stage.

With her slew of melaninated backup dancers (and a brief cameo from Mama Tina and Blue Ivy), Houston’s sweetheart flocked to the use of signature holographic images and other-world illusions that breathed life into her already-flawless set. Then, it hit me like a ton of bricks: Bey is the Queen for a reason…

And, no – it’s not because she rocks a Givenchy dress like no other nor is it because she sings her heart out at every turn; however, it’s her unmatched work ethic that resonates and inspires fans all over the world to slay like their lives depended on it! Say what you want but you can’t deny Beyonce’s tenacious spirit nor her longing to use her platform as a means to motivate, encourage and uplift countless generations.

Keep reading to see my top five reasons why Queen Bey’s work ethic is absolute #goals!

1) Even while pregnant with twins, Beyonce threw fear and public criticism to the wind and still put on a hell of a show!

I was nervous for this performance. I’m not going to lie. Of course, we’ve previously seen Beyonce kill it with child but this was on a completely different level! I’m not sure how many months she currently is but I’m pretty sure she would have LOVED to be at home resting while snacking on cookies; yet, instead, she sacrificed comfort for another chance to captivate her loyal fans. You can say I’m “doing the most” or simply “being extra” but think about it: how many expectant moms would broadcast their entire being to a millions of viewers? The society we live in is extremely harsh when it comes to accepting certain standards of beauty. We glorify attributes that are nearly impossible to sculpt but, once again, Bey went against the grain and proved that the gift of life is just as gorgeous as the world’s most sought after supermodel.

2) Her craft is consistent, calculated and genuine.

Beyonce is hustla! For as long as I can remember, she’s always been a fixture in the entertainment industry. Whether she was kicking butt and taking names with Destiny’s Child or hitting the small screen in multiple low-key cameos, this woman eats, sleeps and breathes her craft! There aren’t too many people who can admit that they’ve spent over 20 years on the music scene, especially in today’s fast-paced digital era. Bey’s the type of artist who will perform come rain or shine – she’s devoted to her brand and she will stop at nothing to ensure that it continues to thrive and grow. Inspired yet?

3) Bey is a workaholic. Plain and simple.

I think this one is a given. You can head to number 4.

4) She draws inspiration from the most unexpected sources.

Beyonce has channeled a multitude of characters in her visual masterpieces. Last night, she derived inspiration from the Yoruba goddess Oshun who is a Nigerian symbol for purity, fertility and love. In the monumental Lemonade short film, she embodied the wide sea of emotions attributed to our deepest relationships, she’s paid homage to the greats including Josephine Baker, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Etta James… I mean the list can go on and on. But, to possess the ability to strategically take your own vision and mesh it with artists and icons of the past, that’s dope! Many naysayers harp on the idea that she steals ideas and uses them for her own gain yet they know nothing of the sort before she cast her spotlight on it. (Can I get a ‘yaaaasss’ for the knowledge dropping?!)

5) Bey is a visionary. Her goals are clear and precise. She also pushes herself to the limit.

If you’re anything like me, I’m a softie for good backstage footage. I’ve run across so much content following Beyonce and her unwavering work ethic. Her world tours are personal testaments of her raw talent and her hands on approach to cultivating her shows is even greater proof that this girl is the truth! From managing stage effects/lighting to critiquing costumes to arranging musical selections, Bey is magic personified. Don’t believe me? Well, head on over to Youtube and check out some footage for yourself!

I’m sure you’re thinking, “Did she really write this looonnnggg speech praising Beyonce?” And, to answer your question, yes I did! I think Beyonce is all types of #BlackGirlMagic. I’ve been an avid follower of her success and her discipline never fails to amaze me. There’s always some random person exclaiming how “hyped up” she is but, in all actuality, the talent behind the hype is a God-given gift. So, why even deny it? Hell, she’s Queen Bey for a damn good reason.

  1. I personally agree she has a work ethic that cant be duplicated. There was a time when I wanted to see plenty of other artist have as much success as she has with awards but then I realized they’ve all been given equal opportunity and your work ethic speaks for what you deserve and Bey works like she hasn’t won in the music game yet. There is saying that goes something like”Spend like your broke and you will save money, work like you have nothing and you will have everything”: Bey keeps to herself and strays from the media and speaks her life through her music and creative videos. She has a great team around her that believes in her brand BEY. I give credit to where its due.

    1. Thanks for reading, Crystal!

It took me a while to finally realize how dope Bey ACTUALLY is. Every single day, I come across social media comments boasting that she’s “overexposed” and “overrated” but, in actuality, the girl continuously kills it, on and off the stage! Her work ethic is one to be desired and it’s evident that she’s perfected her craft through years of experience. I also believe that if some of today’s artists had half the gumption Beyoncé has – their longevity would last beyond one-hit wonder status. Real talk.

Like I said, she’s the Queen for a damn good reason. Lol! 🙂

  2. Girl, I’ve been saying this for years and people write me off as a stan (I’m not even in the beyhive)! I just like to give credit where credit is due. When people tell me that I can’t do it all, I say, “But Beyoncé does”. She definitely motivates!

    1. Brruuuhhhh, she is THE epitome of a #GirlBoss! Everytime I feel myself slipping or falling behind on my goals, I always get that mental picture of Bey killing it on stage. And, immediately, “Formation” starts playing in my head, lol. She’s uber inspiring.
