The Zine 001: What Inspires Me Right Now

I’m inspired by many facets of the world. From abstract sculptures to witnessing the soft hues of a morning sunrise, my senses remain aware of all that surrounds me.

The power of slowing down and noticing is unmatched.

The Zine will be a space where I will share intimate glimpses of my day-to-day life. Details. Moments. The savory parts of being a creative.

Each sensory category (touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing) will be included along with a corresponding highlight.

I’m learning that life requires texture. But, it’s up to us to be present and available to experience such a surreal instant.

Law Roach’s Youtube channel, @LuxuryLaw, is a masterclass in owning your craft and living unapologetically.

Law’s vlogs are the epitome of fashion realness – while he’s dropping gems, he’s also dropping the behind-the-scenes gold that will leave you craving more.

Smell: Kayali’s Eden 39 {Sparkling Lychee}

As part of the brand’s “Eden” line, Kayali’s “Sparkling Lychee” has personified my summer mantra into a single bottle.

This fruity floral boasts notes of candied violet, tart blackcurrant, sparkling lychee and sugared amber. Voluminously sensual and slightly intoxicating, I highly recommend this unforgettable scent.

Hearing: Kokoroko’s “Could We Be More” album

Fun fact: I discovered Kokoroko during a trip to Blessings Plants and Music in The Heights. As I entered the shop, my ears were entranced by the sounds of stylistic afro-beats.

Of course, I inquired – and, the London-based band has been in rotation ever since. Think West-African influences coupled with jazz, funk and silky soul.

While attending a work conference in Dallas, my coworkers and I dined at Wild Salsa. A refined Mexican-style menu with a myriad of flavorful options to fit any palette.

Touch: Sculpting

Hands can create the most touching (no pun intended) creations – literary masterpieces, the perfect home-cooked meal, artisan jewelry – the options are endless. Yet, sculpting was recently introduced to me as a sure-fire way to ease anxiety.

I remain in the introductory phase but, as with most creative treks, it’s about the journey.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you!

I’d love to hear what is inspiring you – drop a comment and let me know what ventures are keeping you motivated and encouraged.
