Located in the historic Third Ward, this Black-owned bookstore is the answer to all your literary needs.

The founder, Terri Hamm, created a space where Black voices are no longer hidden but placed at the forefront of American literature.

Kindred Stories has something for everyone – author talks, monthly workshops and even book clubs – all uplifting the talents, stories and culture of the Black experience.

Once you enter the shop, you’re met with an amiable ambience and instantly catapulted into the transcendent realm of literary powerhouses such as Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Maya Angelou and Octavia E. Butler.

I’m on a journey to rekindle my relationship with reading.

And, my pilgrimage to Kindred Stories prompted a reminder that I can see myself represented in art. In our narratives. In our words. Our way.
